Piano Guild Auditions 2026--Greene Music
Do NOT skim this read. Doing so may lead to uncomfortable & embarrassing situations.
We are so excited to be approaching our Piano Guild dates! For many students, this will be their first in-person audition. Here is what your Guild day might look like.
Students will be greeted by a Giacoletti teacher upon arrival to the event at the Greene Music 7480 Miramar Rd, San Diego, CA 92126 (In Miramar) When it is the student’s turn, the student will be introduced by their teacher to the judge and go into the performance hall to begin the one to one audition. Student will give the books to the judge. Parents/caregivers will wait outside, and may listen at the door if they choose to. When the audition is over, the student will come out of the room and be congratulated by the teacher. This is a good time for a few pictures. Now it's time to celebrate!
Important tips:
Bring your music books.
Arrive 15 minutes early and allow for traffic.
Judges are typically right on time or a little early.
Dress for success. No athletic shoes or Doc Martin style shoes with skirts or dresses. This is not the venue for this fashion. Think more traditionally. Dresses and skirts should be knee length or longer. Bare shoulders and heeled shoes are to be avoided. Gentlemen should wear a button down shirt at the least, but a neck tie will be noticed and appreciated by the judge. Dress shoes are preferred. Athletic shoes should be avoided, but Vans or Converse style shoes are ok. It will be a good day to have a brush on hand also, so hair neat and tidy.
Come well rested
Eat a light snack and drink water before the audition.
It's the final stretch, and therefore the trickiest part of the process. There are a lot of songs to keep polished up at the same time. Try not to be caught off guard by resistance to practice this week. It's time to dig deep and have fun! Here is another blog post full of ideas to make the next couple of weeks special! https://www.giacolettimusic.com/single-post/home-stretch
Your Guild Checklist:
Music books
Extra snack
Water
Brush
Positive and light-hearted attitude (for parents).
Depending on where you are coming from please leave at least 1 hour before your scheduled time
Tips for Nerves:
Students may feel "music energy" while waiting their turn. It’s the body and mind preparing to give an awesome performance. Let them voice their feelings about it, acknowledge their feelings, and then have them visualize their performance going really well. They may also want to talk about something else to take their mind off of it.
We encourage you to not bribe your child with treats “if they play” or ”if they do well”, but tell them you are going to go celebrate them after the performance.
Also, please refrain from suggesting they should have practiced more.
If a parent feels anxious for their child, this is natural. Please do not pass this feeling on to your child. It may help you to take a few deep breathes yourself.
Finally, students and parents who supported their child/children, in preparation for the auditions are to be commended! All Guild students will be recognized at the recital, where they will be awarded the certificate, report card, and special pin. Here's to a great audition!
